Trend on the Rise: Colorful Modern Bathrooms are the New Neutral
Color is so popular right now that some are calling it the new neutral. Bold, colorful modern bathrooms are one of the top trends in 2020. Your instincts may tell you that bold color would make a small space look even smaller or dated. But today’s color trends aren’t like the pastels of the 1980’s, the chintzy wallpapers of the 1990’s, or the overused earth tones of the past few years.
Even if you’re a huge fan of color, choosing the right one can feel daunting. After all, it's easy to get it wrong, inadvertently turning your space it into a dark, depressing dungeon. No one wants that.
There’s nothing worse than following a trend only to end up with a dated bathroom in a few years - not only will it annoy you, but it’s not a great selling point either. You can rest assured that the below trends will only improve with age.
Here are some ways for you to start incorporating the best 2020 color trends in a way that flatters your space and appeals to your aesthetic.
1. Marbleized Wallpaper
Looking for a “wow” moment? Marble-look wallpaper is a great solution. If you're timid about color, this option allows for a true neutral background (like white or gray) while providing a pop of color with “marble” veining. Vein colors can include:
Black
White (with a colorful hue, like turquoise or pink)
Silver
Gold (talk about a “wow” moment!)
Gray
Pink
Blue
Lavender
2. Black Accents or Statement Pieces
Though you may not expect it, black is an integral player in colorful modern bathroom trends this year. As popular as it is, we find that black intimidates a lot of people. The best way to incorporate this color is to add accents of it here and there. Or, even better, use it as the main color of a statement piece in your bathroom, like the bathtub. It will add a touch of decadence and make other colors pop, especially metallics.
Black bathroom ideas include:
Painting the ceiling black (while keeping the rest of the bathroom white)
Black light fixtures, mirrors, and vanities
Another 2020 trend is to use matte black paint and accessories. It will add some modernity to your bathroom.
3. Brass and Gold
Some people shy away from brass or gold fixtures because they’re reminded of the gaudy fixtures of yesteryear. Not to worry – the choices you have now look sleek and modern. If you’re going for a vintage feel, you can find some gorgeous art deco-inspired gold and brass shower, bath and sink fixtures that will take your breath away.
4. Pops of Bold Color
Embracing color in your bathroom doesn’t necessarily mean it will end up looking clown-like. You can create a colorful modern bathroom space by adding the occasional pop.
The great thing about 2020 color schemes is that there’s not one color that’s trending. Instead, designers recommend choosing colors that make you feel a certain way. For example, if you want to feel like you’re at one with nature or that your bathroom is a wellness haven, choose green. If you want to feel mellow and relaxed, choose blue hues.
5. If We Had to Choose One Color…
While you can choose whatever color you want, there is one color range that’s trending more than others – pink. Before you disregard this suggestion, give us a moment. There are so many hues of pink - you just might find something that appeals to you.
The most coveted hues include blush, rose gold, and pinkish lavender.
How to use pink in your space:
Paint a statement wall
Choose a fun yet elegant wallpaper with pink tones or accents
Plants can add a pop of color to your bathroom and make it feel more inviting, luxurious, and relaxing. Orchids thrive in a humid space like a bathroom, plus they come in beautiful colors ranging from pure white to vivid purple. Other plants that grow well in the bathroom include:
Golden pothos
Neon pothos
Spider plants
China doll plants
Grape ivy
Peperomia
Heartleaf philodendron
